Two Amazing Choirs

Temple Beth David enjoys a well-deserved reputation as a musical congregation.

Our adult choir enriches our worship services throughout the  High Holy Days and all the wonderful Shabbats and holidays during the year.

The junior choir provides a wonderful opportunity for our youth to perform Jewish music at services and in the community.

The Adult Choir

Once upon a time, in the far off land of Los Alamitos, California, there lived a charming young Rabbi and his family.  They lived in a small house called Temple Beth David, which was nestled inside a larger house called the Los Alamitos Congregational Church.  The Rabbi and his family were happy in their little house, except for one small problem…there was no music.  Oh yes, the birds outside flitted around, but they only had one note…and alas, it wasn’t even the melody note!

Well, one day, a cantor and his opera trained music director wife came riding into town.  The Cantor told the Rabbi, you need music, we need a Temple….and a partnership was forged…one that has lasted to this very day, more than 40 years later.  Fay and Harry Newman formed a Choir that has been the heart and soul of music at Temple Beth David.  Over the years, the Choir, first under Fay’s leadership, and now our incredible Cantorial Soloist, Nancy Linder, has contributed greatly to Temple life through music.  It sings on the second Shabbat service of every month, all special holiday services, the High Holy Days, and benefit concerts at Temple and in the community.  The Choir has given financially to many of the Temple’s needs:  sound system, lighting, building fund, chairs, new piano, general fund…and has presented such productions as Fiddler on the Roof, Elijah, and Judas Maccabeus.

For the Choir,  having the opportunity to uplift and inspire the congregation, to pray along with the congregation, gives a deep sense of accomplishment and belonging.  Come sing with us!
